Scottish Foundation of Indianapolis McMath Scholarship

Overview

The Scottish Society sponsors the Scottish Foundation of Indianapolis, a non-profit organization formed in 2011 to support education in Scottish arts, history, culture, and geneaolgy. George McMath was a long-time member of the Scottish Society of Indianapolis, participating in many events and sharing his exceptional knowledge of Scottish history and culture. This scholarship is to support students in the IU School of Liberal Arts who are interested in studying subjects related to Scottish art and/or artists, archaeology, dance, music, history, language (Scots English and/or Scots Gaelic), literature, and poetry.

Selection Criteria

Eligible recipients must be pursuing a degree in IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The applicants must be interested in studying subjects related to Scottish art and/or artists, archeology, dance, music, history, language (Scots English and/or Scots Gaelic), literature, and poetry. Preference will be given to residents of Indiana.

Each application must include an essay that includes an expression of the applicant's interest in studying subjects related to Scottish culture and how this opportunity will benefit the student's personal and career goals. (maximum 500 words)

Additional expenditures may be included with this scholarship to support supplemental activities that enrich the recipient's educational experiences in Scottish studies, such as participating in an IU-accredited study abroad program, attending a conference, conducting a research project, or supplementing the funding of an internship.
