Overview

The Rebecca E. Pitts Memorial Scholarship was established in 1986 through an estate gift from Rebecca E. Pitts, who served the Department of English from 1966 to 1976. The scholarship is intended to assist an outstanding Liberal Arts student in attaining an extraordinary educational experience, which will enhance their opportunity for advance study. The recipient should plan to seek a graduate degree in a Liberal Arts discipline.

Selection Criteria

This scholarship assists outstanding undergraduate Liberal Arts students in their junior or senior year. Eligible Liberal Arts majors will have a minimum GPA of 3.3 out of a 4.0 scale and must plan to seek a graduate degree in a Liberal Arts discipline. Applicants will submit a faculty letter of recommendation and write an essay on the topic:

“Why are you interested in pursuing a graduate degree in Liberal Arts and how would this scholarship enhance your opportunity for advanced study?” (maximum 500 words)
