Kissel School of Liberal Arts Learning Community Scholarship

Kissel School of Liberal Arts Learning Community Scholarship

Overview

This scholarship supports first-year students in the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI through recognizing their successful completion of a Liberal Arts First-Year Seminar. Themed Learning Communities (TLCs) are circular practices designed to support entering students and have been shown to improve student engagement and retention. The scholarship was created by our respected and esteemed colleague and faculty member, Francia Kissel, and her husband, Robert Kissel, who are committed to helping liberal arts students succeed at IUPUI.

Criteria

Eligible recipients must be pursuing a major in the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI and be in their second semester as a full-time student with at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and are to have successfully completed a Liberal Arts First-Year Seminar.

Each application must include an essay that describes how their Themed Learning Community (TLC) or First-Year Seminar at IUPUI helped to support them as entering students at IUPUI and how the first semester with the support of TLCs benefited their overall educational experience.
