Frances Dodson Rhome Scholarship
Professor Emerita Frances Dodson Rhome served IUPUI for 17 years in the Department of English and the Women's Studies Program (which has since been renamed the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program). In 1973, Chancellor Maynard Hine appointed Professor Emerita Rhome as IUPUI's first Affirmative Action Officer. Throughout her time at IUPUI, Rhome frequently gave back to her community. In honor of her work at IUPUI, the School of Liberal Arts created the Frances Dodson Rhome Scholarship for students who demonstrate their interest in English literature or women's studies.
Undergraduate students majoring in a Liberal Arts discipline with a demonstrated interest in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) or English Literature are eligible for this scholarship. Preference will be given to students who have a demonstrated financial need as determined by university financial need criteria.
Applicants will submit an essay focusing on their interests and capabilities in WGSS and/or English literature (maximum of 500 words), as well as one (1) letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
