With a double major in Political Science and Global & International Studies and a minor in Arabic and Islamic Studies, Jonathan Sullivan was going to make a difference. When Jonathan studied abroad in Jordan, he knew that it would be life-changing. He took courses in research methods and ethics, intensive Arabic, and modernization and social change in Jordan. His independent study project focused on public opinion on Jordan’s military involvement in Syria and Yemen. Jonathan immersed himself in modern Jordanian culture both in and outside the classroom—he lived with a Palestinian family in Amman, spent a week with a Bedouin family, and volunteered at a camp for Syrian refugees.

When his study abroad program was over, Jonathan used what he learned to make a difference by working in international economic development. He graduated from IUPUI, received a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Ball State, and is now applying to doctoral programs in political science.

Spending any amount of time abroad can be costly, and students like Jonathan rely on scholarships to help cover these costs. Thanks to donors like you, liberal arts students can experience life-changing study abroad trips—creating a new generation of globally-minded citizens committed to making the world a better place.
