Self Expression is something that we all engage in every once and awhile. Whether it be by cooking, dancing, or meme’s, writing is an easy and personalized way to do this. Personalized writings such as poetry or journaling allows writers and readers to jump into an alternative reality filled with emotion, language, and most of all freedom.

While expressing yourself through writing you begin to extract the emotions that your feeling on the inside, and allow them to escape from your pen onto your paper. The best part about this process is that you have the ability to get lost in your imagination by customizing the tone, choice of words, and most all the scenario. For instance you can reflect on a crappy cup of coffee as a daily journal entry! You can describe it as a brown lake, with a bitter taste and add an unexpected ending. Or you can reminisce about a grilled cheese that you had for lunch and turn it into a love poem like the one below:

Grilled Cheese, Grilled Cheese

I love you so much,

I want you for dinner, and I had you for lunch

Roses are red, Violets are blue,

To spoil myself I think, I’ll have two!

Pretty cheesy huh? (wink,wink)

Personalized writings can be used as a way to relieve stress and is a healthy way to release emotions. This type of writing doesn’t have be kept to yourself, feel free to express what you have written to others by creating a poetry group with friends, or by sharing it on a social media platform. I bet you’re wondering “How do I start?”, simply grab a notebook and a writing utensil and let your mind run free!

Happy Writing!
