Ready for flexibility and a multidisciplinary course of study? The General Studies program is designed to meet your needs, considering your job history/skills, previous college credits, and life experiences.

Admissions Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Documented significant work and life experience
  • Desire to complete a flexible interdisciplinary degree program
  • Transfer students must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or have been out of college for at least one semester

How to Apply

If you have never attended college or Indiana University (any campus including IUPUI)

If you have never been admitted to any campus of Indiana University and have never attended a college or university, you will submit your application through IUPUI Undergraduate Admissions.

If you have attended another college or university, but have never been admitted to Indiana University (any campus including IUPUI)

If you have never been admitted to any campus of Indiana University but have completed coursework from other colleges or universities, you will submit your application through IUPUI Undergraduate Admissions and select Transfer Applicants.

If you have attended Indiana University (any campus including IUPUI) but have not attended for one or more years

If you have a previous admission to Indiana University and have not been enrolled for one or more years, you will submit your application through IUPUI Undergraduate Admissions and select Returning Adult Applicants.

If you have attended Indiana University (any campus including IUPUI) and have been out less than 2 semesters

If you have a previous admission to IUPUI and have been out less than two semesters (with the exception of summer terms) or are returning from military leave, and are interested in pursuing the General Studies degree, contact the program office at (317) 278-2630 or email.

If you have been admitted to General Studies at IUPUI and have been out less than 2 semesters

If you have a previous admission to the IUPUI General Studies degree and have been out less than two semesters (with the exception of summer terms) or are returning from military leave, contact the General Studies degree program office at (317) 278-2630 or email.

If you are a current student at IUPUI and interested in changing your major to General Studies

Your first step is to meet with Dee Alderman or Desiree Jaynes. You can schedule an appointment by using the Student Appointment Scheduler.

Transfer Students

You may be able to transfer an associate degree or up to 64 credit hours from a regionally accredited two-year college and up to 90 credit hours from a regionally accredited four-year college or university. Meet with your advising team to determine if course meets equivalencies.
