Earn support for your academic and career pursuits

As a sociology student, you have access to several awards and scholarships that will provide financial support as you pursue your career in Sociology. These awards recognize upperclassmen in the program as well as students that are new to the field. These awards are given annually each spring, and several can be applied to and received more than once. Details and application instructions appear below.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Academic Achievement Award for Sociology

This award recognizes a graduating senior sociology major who has demonstrated the highest level of excellence in the study of Sociology.

Sociology Essay Award  

This award supports a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in a Sociology course that submits the best essay on an important topic in Sociology.

Sociology Paper Award

This award is presented to one undergraduate sociology major or minor for the best paper written in a sociology course.

Sociology Service Learning Award

This scholarship supports a full-time IUPUI student enrolled in a service learning course in Sociology who displays outstanding achievement working with partners or agencies in the community.

Graduate Scholarships

David C. Bell Theory Fellowship in Sociology

The David C. Bell Theory Fellowship in Sociology is to support master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation fellowships for graduate students in the Department of Sociology in the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI.

Suzanne K. Steinmetz Scholar in Sociology

This scholarship, honoring the memory of Professor Suzanne Steinmetz, is awarded to a student enrolled in the Sociology Master’s Degree program at the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI.
