Unveiling the Magic of COMM-T100: A Journey into Theatrical Creation

Welcome to the fascinating world of COMM-T100 Rehearsal and Performance, where students embark on a captivating journey of creativity and collaboration to bring stories to life on stage. In this blog post, we delve into the essence of this unique course, exploring its structure, challenges, and the profound impact it has on personal and professional growth, as shared by one of its students.

Motivation Behind the Curtain

Undergraduate student, Emma Adams

Meet Emma, a passionate theatre enthusiast who decided to step out of her comfort zone and explore the realms of storytelling beyond the spotlight. Motivated by her love for theatre and a desire to hone her collaborative skills, Emma embarked on the COMM-T100 adventure.

The Heartbeat of the Class: Structure and Activities

Led by the visionary Associate Professor in Applied Theatre, Emilio G. Robles, COMM-T100 is not just a class but a student-led artistic haven. Through a series of engaging activities and artistic inquires, students immerse themselves in the creative process, building trust and fostering collaboration. From playful acting games to deep discussions inspired by Anna Devere Smith’s “Letters to a Young Artist,” every moment in class is a step towards collective storytelling.

Overcoming Challenges: The Journey of Trust

Like any great theatrical performance, the journey through COMM-T100 is not without its challenges. For Emma, trust was a hurdle to overcome. Yet, through dedication and the support of her classmates, she found the courage to trust in her own abilities and the collaborative process.

Memorable Moments: Finding Joy in the Journey

Amidst the artistic exploration, there are moments of pure magic. For Emma, it was a simple yet profound activity of passing balls in a pattern—a metaphor for trust and focus. In those moments, bonds were strengthened, and pride in collective achievement soared.

The Theme of Wellness and Wellbeing: Nurturing Body and Soul

This year’s performance in COMM-T100 is centered around the theme of wellness and wellbeing. Through their creative endeavors, Emma and her classmates explore what it means to cultivate a sense of balance and harmony in life. From physical health to mental and emotional wellbeing, the stories they craft reflect the universal quest for inner peace and fulfillment.

Personal and Professional Growth: A Curtain Call for Transformation

The impact of COMM-T100 extends far beyond the stage. Personally, Emma found newfound appreciation for her ideas and the power of collaboration. Professionally, she honed essential teamwork and compromise skills—valuable assets in any field.

The Naming of the Tale: A Collective Journey

As the performance takes shape, one crucial decision remains—the name. In the spirit of collaboration, suggestions will be made, debates will ensue, and ultimately, a name will emerge—one that embodies the essence of the story they’ve crafted together.

The Artistic Blueprint: From Idea to Performance

To understand the creative process, imagine it as a journey told in simple steps. First, bonding and brainstorming. Second, delving into the theme of wellness. Third, crafting scenes and gathering feedback. Fourth, refining the script and casting. Fifth, rehearsing and refining. And finally, the grand finale—performance and sharing their art with the world.

In conclusion, COMM-T100 is not merely a class but a transformative odyssey where students like Emma discover the power of collaboration, creativity, and trust. As the curtains rise on their performance, they stand not only as actors but as storytellers, weaving tales that resonate long after the applause fades.
