Supporting the next generation of communicators

Financial support for our students as they pursue their academic and career goals is a high priority for the Department of Communication Studies. Our department offers awards that are given annually in the spring and range in availability to majors, minors, and outside students engaged in course work. Details and application instructions appear below.

Undergraduate Scholarships

The Faculty Medal of Distinction is awarded annually by the faculty of the IU School of Liberal Arts to an undergraduate student who has made outstanding contributions to the liberal arts community in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and service.

CVR’s Barrier-Busting Scholarship Check out one of the School of Liberal Arts newest scholarships! The CVR Diversity in Advertising Scholarship (up to $5,000) is made possible by the CVR Diversity in Advertising Fund, a donor-advised fund of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, established to help create equitable opportunity for students of color pursuing higher education in advertising, communications, and public relations. Eligible recipients must be in good academic standing, enrolled full-time as a sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a major in communication studies, journalism, applied theater, television, and film studies, or public relations in the School of Liberal Arts. IUPUI Communication Studies Scholarship This scholarship recognizes an outstanding student enrolled in Liberal Arts majoring in Communication Studies.

Communication Studies Undergraduate Essay and Research Writing Contest. This award recognizes excellence in undergraduate student research and/or a creative writing project for papers and projects written for an IUPUI graduate class in the Department of Communication Studies.

 

Graduate Scholarships

Academic Achievement Award for Communication Studies (Graduate) The Department of Communication Studies presents this award to a graduating student who is receiving a master's in applied communication.

Petronio-Bantz Graduate Student Travel Award The Petronio-Bantz Graduate Student Travel Award was created by Professor Sandra Petronio and former Chancellor Charles R. Bantz. The award supports graduate students in the Department of Communication Studies who will be presenting at scholarly conferences and academic meetings.

Communication Studies Graduate Research/Essay Contest. This award recognizes excellence in graduate student research and/or a creative writing project for papers and projects written for an IUPUI graduate class in the Department of Communication Studies.

 

Doctorate Scholarships

Academic Achievement Award for Communication Studies (Doctorate) The Department of Communication Studies presents this award to a Ph.D. candidate in Health Communication.

The IUPUI Petronio Communication Privacy Management Dissertation Fellowship is offered annually to an outstanding doctoral student from a United States accredited university who has completed coursework and successfully defended a dissertation proposal that utilizes Communication Privacy Management (CPM) theory and research.
