In December, Jennifer Mahoney and Andy Buchenot, both faculty members in the Department of English at IUPUI, were awarded a $5000 Bridge to the Future grant. Funded through philanthropic donations from the IUPUI Chancellor’s Circle, the grant will support the design, creation, and pilot of an open educational resource (OER) for use in W131 – Reading, Writing, and Inquiry. With support from an AAC&U Institute on OER, Buchenot and Mahoney are developing an IU pressbook that will replace the costly textbooks students purchase for their first-year composition course. Students will have free access to the resource from Day One of their writing class. The OER will not only reduce the financial burden on students but will also improve equity and inclusion. Faculty will be able to revise content in response to student needs and interests, course outcomes, and campus initiatives. Piloting of the project will begin in Fall 2023. The goal is to have the OER installed in the Canvas sites of all W131 sections in Fall 2024.  Read more here about IUPUI Bridge to the Future Grants.
