Chinese

The Chinese program endeavors to set up a solid foundation for learning the Chinese language and acquiring an understanding of Chinese culture. The program offers a minor in Chinese studies, a certificate in Chinese studies, and a self-designed individualized major in Chinese studies. In addition, the program helps to satisfy the Chinese language requirements for majors in international studies focusing on China. The program has summer and semester study abroad programs at Sun Yat-sen University in China offered through the Confucius Institute.
The Chinese program offers rich opportunities and resources for students to excel in the learning of the Chinese language. The following resources are available to every student studying Chinese at IUPUI.

  • Free extra-curricular reading materials
  • Scholarship to study abroad in the summer program at Sun Yat-sen University
  • Free HSK practice tests administered by the Confucius Institute in Indianapolis
  • Priority to work as an intern at the Summer Camp

In addition, students who are enrolled in the minor, certificate, or individualized major program of Chinese studies will have the opportunity to study at Sun Yat-sen University for one year with a monthly stipend and a waiver of tuition, fees, and room and board.
