INDIANAPOLIS—The Chinese official who serves as deputy governor of the People’s Bank of China and manages China’s $2.3 trillion of foreign currency reserves will present a lecture, "China’s Economy—Path of RMB Exchange Rate Converging to Equilibrium," on Wednesday, April 18, on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus.

Drug Co-pays Mean Less Generous Health Care Benefits for Families Facing Chronic Disease

Anne RoyaltyBenefits paid out under employer-sponsored health care plans are less generous to families covering a member with a chronic illness than to families without a chronically ill member, according to a trio of university researchers. The difference is due primarily to higher out-of-pocket expenses for prescription drugs.

For a given level of total health care spending, households covering chronic conditions spend 1½ to two times more on prescription drugs, the researchers found.

Liberal Arts 40th AnniversaryCavanaugh Hall will celebrate its 40th anniversary with an open house and reunion on Friday, September 23, 2011, 4:30-6:30 pm. The event will feature a special six-story exhibit, "Cavanaugh Hall: 40 Years of Impact," exploring the building’s history, a reception, and comments from Dean William Blomquist at 6:00 pm.

Originally conceived to be 9-stories tall with windows all around, Cavanaugh, the Lecture Center (now Lecture Hall) and the Library (now Taylor Hall) were the first undergraduate buildings on what became the IUPUI campus. Named in honor of Robert E. …

Liberal Arts Faculty/Staff Break Campus Campaign Record!

133 Liberal Arts faculty and staff members contributed to the 2011 Liberal Arts IMPACT IUPUI Faculty and Staff Campaign raising $55,702.19 for scholarships, research, departmental and school initiatives, and events! Across campus 856 faculty and staff donors have given $340,898 during the campaign that ran from February 28th to May 31st. Thanks to the generosity and commitment of the faculty and staff it was a record-setting year of support for the School of Liberal Arts. Liberal Arts faculty and staff giving also broke a campus record, collectively giving more than any unit in the campaign’s recorded history.

Seven of the 2011 William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion recipients are Liberal Arts students. The Plater Medallion is designed to honor the IUPUI students that are most dedicated to civic engagement.  This year’s Plater Civic Engagement Medallion recipients represent a broad variety of backgrounds, majors, and types of engagement that have had a major impact both on the IUPUI campus and within the Indianapolis community; one half the 14 recipients, however, share majors in the Liberal Arts.
