Anne Donchin, Emerita Professor of Philosophy

Anne Donchin, Emerita Professor of Philosophy

Devoted life partner Dr. Edmund Byrne established the Donchin and Byrne Women’s Studies Student Fund scholarship in Anne Donchin’s memory. Dr. Donchin joined the Philosophy Department at IUPUI in 1982. In the School of Liberal Arts, she developed a Women’s Studies Program, which specialized in and, in numerous ways, pioneered feminist bioethics.

In September 2015, the New York Society for Women in Philosophy dedicated its program to Dr. Anne Donchin, and in 2016, she was similarly honored in Scotland. On December 2, 2015, the Gender Alliance for Development in Tirana, Albania opened a new library which includes a collection of feminist books and journals donated by and dedicated to Anne Donchin.

Ed Byrne, Emeritus Professor of Philosophy

Dr. Edmund Byrne came to newly established IUPUI in 1969 and taught in the Philosophy Department for 29 years, retiring in 1998. He was instrumental in establishing the B.A. in Philosophy, chaired the department from 1979-1987, and received a national award for his continuing education book on Work in 1987 and the SLA Outstanding Faculty Award in 1988.

By his contributions, Dr. Byrne wished to further WGSS’s mission, and to encourage others to give to the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI.
