Spanish Study Abroad Opportunities

Our Programs

Abroad study in the Program in Spanish is open to students majoring in all academic disciplines and are not restricted to language majors. Study abroad options include a 9-day summer program in the Dominican Republic and a five-week program in Salamanca, Spain.

Dominican Republic: Spanish Language and Culture (For Undergraduates)

Students in Dominican Republic

After preliminary organizational meetings, the course begins with three weeks of evening classes at IUPUI. Students then travel to the Dominican Republic for 10 days of intensive field activities. A final exam is administered upon return.

The field course is based in Puerto Plata with visits to La Isabela, Samaná, and Santo Domingo.

Spain: MAT–Spanish (For Graduates)

Students in Salamanca, Spain

This five-week program in Salamanca, Spain is designed for MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) students. IUPUI and the Universidad de Salamanca sponsor this Summer Institute for Spanish Teachers and provide intensive instruction in Spanish grammar, linguistics, culture, literature and other arts. Practicing Spanish teachers may participate for continuing education.

Other Study Abroad Opportunities

Students may also participate in immersive IU-sponsored study abroad programs that include a summer program in Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru. IU credit is granted for work that is satisfactorily completed in any of these programs.

Study abroad programs range from week-long to year-long programs and are administered by the Department of World Languages and Cultures. We collaborate with the IUPUI Office of International Affairs and the IU Office of Overseas Study in Bloomington in providing programs of all kinds to suit your needs and goals.
