Courses in English for Academic Purposes Program develop and strengthen the level of English language fluency of incoming international students who begin to write, speak, and read at a college level.
High-intermediate and advanced EAP courses are offered both to students entering IUPUI in degree programs as well as non-degree students who are interested in enhancing their English language skills.
The EAP courses are also open to IUPUI international staff and faculty. EAP courses are small, controlled to allow maximum student-teacher interaction in a student-centered communicative teaching approach. Individual attention and conferences are provided as the need arises.
In addition to modern high-tech classrooms and computer labs, IUPUI language facilities include digital and multi-media labs for classes and self-monitored, independent practice in listening, speaking, and pronunciation. An ESL tutoring center and the University Writing Center has specialized staff to assist EAP students.
EAP is a sequence of four courses, two in each of the first two semesters, taken alongside other undergraduate courses. Small class sizes and dedicated faculty help create a friendly, collaborative environment that promotes active learning.
Students engage in classroom instruction that promotes cross-cultural awareness and critical thinking skills. You will also have the opportunity to participate in social, cultural, and academic events on campus that will ease your transition into American culture and the campus community.
Students do not apply to EAP, you apply for admission to the University. If you meet the academic criteria and need English language support, your letter of admission will place you in EAP.
