Department of Philosophy

The study of philosophy is the oldest intellectual pursuit. Through outstanding undergraduate and graduate programs, students have opportunities to think deeply and analytically about questions fundamental to the human self in the natural and social world. Philosophical exploration is the art of analytic thinking that goes beyond casual discussions based on mere opinion. Students of philosophy learn the skills of critical thinking, problem solving, conceptual analysis, and argumentation. A degree in philosophy does not just train students to think outside the box; it trains students to think where no boxes exist.
