How do we understand our world? One way is through the study of the social sciences and humanities, in which we learn about the social life of human beings and the human condition.

In the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI we explore life’s big questions-from the undergraduate to the graduate levels-and offer courses that both meet your curiosity and give you the skills necessary for a satisfying career. Liberal Arts students and graduates are proven communicators who can think through tough problems, work in teams, conduct research…and know how to speak, write, and present the results of their work. They hone their skills in the community with service learning and internships and around the globe by studying abroad.

Students come to us right out of high school, as transfers who are seeking something different, or as adults who want to finish a degree, start one, or explore the humanities and social sciences simply to expand their horizons.

Our courses range broadly from survey, introductory offerings to highly specialized topical seminars for upper division students. You can choose to take single courses in areas of interest, to meet general requirements of your majors, or to major or minor in the School’s many degree areas-or do a double major or dual degree. With smaller credit hour requirements, certificate programs at both the undergrad and grad levels can provide a quick avenue toward a professional goal.
