Scholarships & Awards

The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers several scholarships and awards to students who have excelled in our program. Some of these awards recognize outstanding academic achievement and performance, while others support students engaging in research related travel and students demonstrating financial need. These are given annually each spring. Details and application instructions appear below.

French Scholarships

This scholarship, named for Professor Emeritus James G. Beaudry, provides scholarship support for an undergraduate student to participate in an IU-accredited study abroad program in a French-speaking country. Read more.
This fund is to support a scholarship for one student pursuing a degree or certificate in French in the School of Liberal Arts. Read more.
This award honors a student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of the French language, culture, literature, and linguistics. Read more.
This scholarship was established to honor Marius J. Faure and supports a student majoring in French Language and Literature. Read more.

 

German Scholarships

This scholarship was created by Professor Emeritus Giles Hoyt and Associate Dean Emerita Dolores Hoyt to provide financial support and encouragement to students majoring, minoring, or pursuing a certificate or graduate degree in the German program. Read more.
This supports students in the German program who are also working toward a degree in Engineering or Technology. Read more.
This award honors a student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of the German language, culture, literature, and linguistics. Read more.

 

Spanish Scholarships

This scholarship honors Professor Emerita Nancy Newton and supports a student majoring in Spanish / Spanish M.A.T taking part in a Spanish Language Study Abroad Program. Read more.
This award honors a student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of the Spanish language, culture, literature, and linguistics. Read more.

 

Classical Studies Scholarships

This award will support a student participating in a study abroad that interacts with the study of the classical world. Read more.
This scholarship will support a scholarship for one student pursuing an individualized major or minor in classical studies, ancient Greek and Latin, or equivalent area. Read more.

 

World Language Scholarship for Individualized Majors

Created by Professor Emerita Gabrielle Bersier, this scholarship supports an undergraduate student who is majoring in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, or Individualized Major Program. Read more.

 

Office of International Affairs Scholarship

Need help funding your study abroad experience? As an undergraduate or graduate student, you may be eligible to apply for the International Experience Scholarship. The International Experience Scholarship is offered through the IUPUI Office of International Affairs. We have two award cycles per year, and preference is given to students who have not previously studied abroad. Read more.
Need help funding your study abroad experience? As an undergraduate student, you may be eligible to apply for the Shreve Study Abroad Scholarship of $2,000. The Shreve Study Abroad Scholarship, offered through the IUPUI Study Abroad Office, was created in order to support and encourage global learning for IUPUI undergraduate students through participation in an approved study abroad program. Need help funding your study abroad experience? As a degree-seeking undergraduate student within your first year at IUPUI, you may be eligible to apply for the Study Abroad Planning Grant of $3,000. The Study Abroad Planning Grant, offered through the IUPUI Study Abroad Office, was created in order to support and encourage global learning for IUPUI undergraduate students through participation in an approved study abroad program. Applicants to the grants do not need to have already identified a program or know exactly what they would like to do abroad. This is an opportunity to explore all international options. Read more.
Need help funding your study abroad experience? Are you an undergraduate transfer student from Ivy Tech? You could receive a $2,000 award through the Ivy Tech Transfer Student Study Abroad Scholarship, offered through the IUPUI Office of International Affairs. If you've completed a degree or certificate from Ivy Tech in the last three years you are eligible to apply. The scholarship is awarded twice a year in two cycles. Read more.
