Promoting excellence in scholarship and sociology

Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) is the International Sociology Honors Society, and its purpose is to “acknowledge and promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and such other social and intellectual activities as will lead to improvement in the human condition.” AKD provides sociology students with an excellent opportunity to get involved. There are also wonderful benefits such as travel money for conferences and workshops. AKD members are lifetime members!

Qualifications for membership

  • Junior or senior standing
  • Sociology major or minor
  • At least 12 completed hours of sociology courses
  • Sociology GPA of 3.3 or higher (overall GPA of 3.0 or higher)

  • Spring Induction ceremony
  • Individual Paper Competition Submissions
