Morgan Campbell, B.A.J. ‘18, is a Social Media and Digital Marketing Specialist with IU Bloomington. We checked in to see how her job is going during the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

1. What has IU been doing on social media in regards to the tournament? Are you attending games?

“Since IU was a host of the first round of games at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, we highlighted the facility and the IU staff who were working the tournament.

Our social media team worked closely with the IU Newsroom to find these stories and highlight them before and during the tournament. We have been sharing stories, photos, and videos of the different ways IU was able to execute the tournament. Although social media staff could not attend the games, we were able to give our audience an inside look at the Big Dance.”

2. What has gone into planning for this big event?

“Coordinating with many of our partners has been the most significant part of this project. We worked with athletics, alumni, our newsroom, the IU Jacobs School of Music, and more to find and create the stories we were able to do. Since IU only hosted the first round, we only had so much time posting content relevant to our channels.”

3. Has this been a stressful and busy time, and what have been some interesting parts about this experience?

“It has been busy but enjoyable. I have always been interested in sports, so it has been exciting to have the chance to share content from the tournament. One of the most successful projects we were able to execute was working with the IU Jacobs School of Music to find a musician – Lynnli Wang, associate instructor of the carillon – to perform the NCAA March Madness theme song on the Metz Grand Carillon on IU’s campus. We recorded the performance that aired on CBS and shared it on our channels. It was a great product of a successful partnership.”
