Senior Sarah Lounsbury has been named the 2022 Academic Achievement Award recipient for the Department of Journalism and Public Relations. Lounsbury was nominated by department faculty based on her hard-working attitude, record of academic excellence, dedication to PRSSA, and drive to gain experience in the field of public relations.
The Academic Achievement Award honors an outstanding graduating senior within the major.
“Receiving this award means the world to me,” said Lounsbury, who is graduating this month. “I am thankful to my peers, professors and the Department of Journalism and PR faculty members who have impacted me in profound ways throughout my time as an undergraduate. I feel like all the time, effort and hard work that I have put into my studies the last four years has paid off and I am grateful for the recognition.”
After graduation, Lounsbury plans to celebrate her academic accomplishments by going on a beach vacation with her boyfriend and family. She will also begin an internship at BLASTmedia, a public relations agency in Indianapolis.
Additionally, this summer Lounsbury will begin pursuing her Master of Arts in Sports Journalism degree within the Department of Journalism and Public Relations.
“We are excited that Sarah is sticking around to earn her Master’s degree,” said Emily Turnier, director of outreach and career services for the department. “Our faculty and staff are proud of Sarah. She has accomplished so much during her time at IUPUI, including juggling a tough schedule of rigorous classes, tennis practices and matches, internships and writing work, PRSSA, and other activities.”
