Three IUPUI Journalism alumni and a graduate student have been recognized in the 2021 Hoosier State Press Association (HSPA) Better Newspaper Contest.

IUPUI Journalism alum Breanna Cooper

Breanna Cooper, B.A.J. ’19, and Tyler Fenwick, B.A.J. ’18, staff writers at the Indianapolis Recorder, won two awards in Division 2, one of which is also shared with the Recorder’s editor, Oseye Boyd. Their awards include:

  • Best In-Depth Feature or Feature Package
    First place: Tyler Fenwick, Breanna Cooper and Oseye Boyd: ‘There’s help out there’
  • Community Service
    Third place: Tyler Fenwick and Breanna Cooper: COVID-19

Fenwick won five awards of his own.

Rob Hunt, B.A.J. ’17, a reporter at The Herald Bulletin in Anderson, won two first place sports writing awards (Division 4):

Sports Journalism master’s student Jordan Morey, who is the assistant manager editor at The Republic in Columbus, won third place in Division 4 for best editorial writer.
