Scholarships & Awards

The Department of History offers several scholarships and awards to students who have excelled in our program. Some of these awards recognize outstanding academic achievement and performance, while others support students engaging in research related travel and students demonstrating financial need. These are given annually each spring. Details and application instructions appear below.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Scottish Foundation of Indianapolis Scholarship

This scholarship is to support students in the IU School of Liberal Arts who are interested in studying subjects related to Scottish art and/or artists, archaeology, dance, music, history, language (Scots English and/or Scots Gaelic), literature, and poetry.

Professor Scott Seregny was known for his intellectual accomplishment, originality, and curiosity. This award recognizes the graduating senior who best embodies these qualities.

Theodore Thelander, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship, named in memory of Theodore Thelander, Jr., awards an undergraduate IUPUI student for an excellent paper written on a historical subject.

Graduate Scholarships

Robert Barrows History Graduate Student Paper Scholarship

The Robert Barrows History Graduate Student Paper Scholarship is given annually to a current IUPUI graduate student who submits the best history paper in the current academic year.

This fund honors Professor Emeritus Larry Zimmerman by supporting student research in anthropology, museum studies, indigenous studies, and cultural heritage studies.
