Scholastic Writing Awards

The Hoosier Writing Project is proud to sponsor The Central and Southern Indiana Region of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. We invite submissions of art and writing in many genres from students in grades 7-12. Submissions are accepted between September and December each year. Works are judged by professional artists, writers, editors, teachers, and supporters of art and writing each January. Winners are recognized at a regional ceremony.

In 2024, our region received over 1,850 submissions and gave over 670 awards. Award-winning students were honored at the Regional Visions and Voices Awards Ceremony at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. The Gold Key works were forwarded to the national level for further judging. To see lists of our regional winners, visit this online folder. Contact Steve Fox (sfox@iu.edu) if you are interested in judging awards in 2025 or receiving more information for your grades 7-12 students and teachers.

Gold Kay Scholastic Writing Annual Anthology

Each year, we publish an anthology of Gold Key writing from our region. Gold Key winners receive a copy. You may view the 2024 Anthology (and previous years) online.

If you would like to obtain a print copy of the 2024 Anthology for your family, your school library, or your classroom, contact Steve Fox, sfox@iu.edu. You can donate to the Hoosier Writing Project and help pay for these anthologies.
