I teach a variety of face-to-face and online classes, ranging from COMM-G100 (the gateway course for COMM majors) to seminars in health communication and intercultural communication for graduate students. I am committed to service learning and integrate service learning opportunities into many of my classes. In addition, I am an advocate for the value of internationalizing curriculum and seek to embed global learning outcomes into my classes.

Recent scholarly articles have appeared in the following journals: Journal of Consumer Health on the Internet, Communication & Medicine, Nonprofit & Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Universal Journal of Educational Research, and Communication Education.
The primary focus of my research is on how symbolic exchange re/creates social realities, thus shaping perceptions and behaviors. I have explored this relationship among messages, perceptions, and behavior in a variety of context areas, including health discourse (specifically chronic disease management), intercultural communication (specifically the communicative construction of cultural perceptions and the role of media representations in shaping those perceptions), and conflict management (primarily in organizational settings).
