Anne Beeson Royalty

Anne Beeson Royalty is a Professor of Economics at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and the Director of the Ph.D. Program in Economics.  Professor Royalty earned her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Ph.D. from Yale University.  Before coming to IUPUI in 1999, Dr. Royalty was on the faculty of the Department of Economics at Stanford University.  Her research area is health economics, and she teaches a Ph.D. course in health economics in the IUPUI Department of Economics.  

Professor Royalty’s current research focuses on employer health insurance and rising health care costs.  She has analyzed how workers choose among health plans offered by the employer, how much workers value the health insurance provided by the employer, the health insurance choices of two-earner households, the effect of the income tax preference for fringe benefits on the provision of employer-provided health insurance, and the sources of health care cost growth. 

Professor Royalty has published in a number of academic journals including Journal of Health EconomicsHealth Affairs, Health Services Research, Inquiry, Medical Care Research and ReviewJournal of Human ResourcesJournal of Labor Economics, Journal of Public Economics, and Industrial and Labor Relations Review.  Her research has been supported by numerous grants including grants from the U.S. Department of Labor, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the National Science Foundation.  In Spring of 2010, Professor Royalty was given the Outstanding Distinguished Resident Faculty Award at the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI.
