Alice Mawi

Alice is a TESOL M.A. student and is in her last semester at IUPUI. Originally from Myanmar, she moved to the U.S. as a middle school student and started out as an ESL student. She learned English by reading many books and says, “It was a lot of fun since I love reading.” Alice values her experience in the TESOL M.A. program because she has been exposed to the behind-the-scenes perspective of ESL, which she says is different than being an ESL student. When asked about why she wanted to collaborate with ICIC, Alice said,

“Throughout my time at IUPUI, I have learned the theoretical aspects of TESOL. I am excited to apply the information I have learned and observe the practical and professional side of TESOL through an internship opportunity with ICIC for FHI 360. I will help in the development of the academic workshop and organizing resources on Canvas, and designing classroom activities for FHI 360.”

After the M.A. program, Alice plans to teach English to the refugee community in the Indianapolis area and wants to further develop her ESL teaching skills by continuing to work with PIE or ICIC.
