Timmy Global Health recently announced that Professor Scott Pegg from the Department of Political Science at IUPUI has been named as the new chair of its board of directors. Based in central Indiana, Timmy Global Health was founded in 1997 with the vision to build a healthier world through a community of global leaders. It does this by empowering communities to address health disparities in a sustainable way. Timmy currently works in four countries – the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Nigeria. By partnering with local doctors, nurses and non-governmental organizations, it provides year-round education, healthcare, nutrition, and water and sanitation (WASH) support to the most vulnerable people in the communities it serves.

Dr. Pegg has worked with Timmy Global Health for the past twenty years, largely in terms of its partnership with the Bebor Model Nursery and Primary Schools in Rivers State, Nigeria. Scott will continue to spearhead Timmy’s partnership with Bebor but will now be involved more broadly in shaping the organization’s larger mission and strategic vision.

In response to Professor Pegg’s appointment, Dr. Mercy Obeime, one of the co-founders of Timmy Global Health wrote that “One of the first people I could think of [to serve as the new chair of Timmy’s board of directors] was Scott. He has done so much to support the most vulnerable in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria and continues to help support and mentor others to do similar things around the world. Over 20 years ago, he got me started on my service journey back to my birth country, Nigeria.” Dr. Chuck Dietzen, Timmy’s other co-founder and its current interim executive director noted that “We at Timmy Global Health have mentored thousands of students over 25 years. I have often said to the students that my greatest hope and prayer for them is that they learn to love and accept others where they are. I cannot think of a better person to demonstrate and promote that philosophy than Dr. Scott Pegg.”

Scott Pegg is a Professor in the Department of Political Science, IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI
