Native Student

Connecting with Families

IUPUI American Indian Program recognizes the desire of Native students to retain strong family ties and tribal identities and have instituted and maintain several ways for families to connect to the program and their student. We strive to assist students to maintain connections with their communities with a dedicated purpose of involving family and tribal members throughout the education process.

ALL students within IUPUI American Indian Programs more fully understand the collective nature of Native culture through prescribed connections with:

  • Native education associations
  • Native advisory councils
  • Native culture and community centers/organizations
  • Native educational organizations from other state colleges and university

By incorporating family within the educational experience of Native American students here at IUPUI, we hope to help bridge gaps, heal wounds, and build trust. We understand the importance of family and continue to develop these connections with a dedicated purpose of not only recruiting, but retaining and graduating our students. We continue to explore ways to develop meaningful relationships and dialogue with families in an effort to best support students. If you have ideas or thoughts you would like to share, please feel free to contact us at!

Additionally, IUPUI has created programs and resources to better help you navigate your student’s experience at IUPUI, including the Jaguar Family Association and a variety of publications.
