This award is presented to one undergraduate sociology major or minor for the best paper written in a sociology course.
This award is granted to the student writing the best paper (at least 8 pages) in a sociology course during the previous spring, summer or fall semester.
Applicants must be enrolled full time at IUPUI and have declared major or minor in Sociology. To be eligible, a student must write an academic paper on a sociological topic. The paper can be an empirical study using original data or a critical paper on a sociological topic. In either case, the student should conduct appropriate literature review, propose a clear argument, and demonstrate critical thinking in discussion. The paper should display the student's understanding and knowledge beyond the course work.
The paper must be nominated by faculty who taught the course and selection is made by faculty award committee. (Students do not complete an application form.)
