Faculty

The University Writing Center is dedicated to assisting writers with all types of composition, fostering productive discourse between students and their classroom instructors, and helping IUPUI maintain its tradition of serious academic instruction in a positive, open, and intellectually- stimulating environment. To that end, we have collected some resources specifically for faculty members who are assigning writing projects.

Because of our limited staff, we request that faculty NOT REQUIRE entire classes to visit the UWC for an assignment. We may not be able to accommodate all the students by the deadline; we have also found that such required visits are not nearly as productive as sessions with self-motivated students. If you are concerned about a few students who may need help with their writing process, you can use the IUPUI FLAGS system; FLAGS includes the UWC as a "recommended student action" resource.

Our consultants often make visits to classes all over campus. With a limited number of staff, however, we cannot always reach every class that includes a writing project. If you would like a consultant to visit your class and/or conduct a workshop on a specific writing concern, please contact the director.

The UWC also has a classroom-appropriate promotional video you can show your students.

For instructors recommending their students visit the UWC as part of an assignment

Please read our document on how students can make the most of their visits to the Writing Center.

For instructors wanting to include UWC information on their syllabi

Please use the following paragraph as a starting point for syllabus information:

Even the best writers can benefit from a resource like the University Writing Center. Writing Center sessions are generally 45 minutes, and they should be scheduled ahead of time. Consultants can assist you at any point in the writing process, from understanding the assignment and planning the paper to citing sources and final revisions. I encourage you to take advantage of this free service throughout the semester. To schedule a consulting session, visit our online scheduling system or call 274-2049.
