Study Abroad in Jordan
The summer study abroad program in Jordan runs in May once every two years. Directed by Religious Studies Professor Edward Curtis, the three-week program introduces students to the peoples and cultures of Jordan and the Arab Middle East. First-time study abroad students and first-time travelers are welcome. Prof. Curtis serves as resident director and is available at all times to help students make the most of their time in Jordan. Students earn three credits by enrolling in REL-R309: The Contemporary Middle East. Most class sessions take place "in the field": in homes, mosques, markets, historical sites, a refugee camp, the Parliament, and coffee houses. Interacting with Jordainians in both formal and casual settings, students meet people from all walks of life and come to understand Arab religious life, culture, politics, and society through Jordanian eyes.
