Campus Center to honor Sherrill and Pratt

This fall, the Campus Center will honor the memory of two members of the IUPUI community who contributed to the rich history of IUPUI and Indianapolis.  Two meeting rooms in the Campus Center have been named to honor Dr. Rowland A. "Tony" Sherrill, late professor of religious studies and Millennium Chair of the Liberal Arts, and the late Mr. Yale Pratt, a Bachelor of Arts in sociology alumnus.  

Under the direction of Campus Center director Daniel Maxwell, the Campus Center Names Project Committee collected, reviewed and recommended Sherrill and Pratt from among the 23 nominations representing faculty, staff, students, alumni and administrators. This process also included the approval of IUPUI Chancellor Charles Bantz and IU President Michael McRobbie.  

Dr. Sherrill and Mr. Pratt were selected for their respective contributions through school, work and life which advanced one or more of the following values embraced by the Campus Center:

Rooms 405 and 409 have been named The Yale Pratt Meeting Room and The Tony Sherrill Meeting Room respectively. Each room will include a permanent display showcasing their respective lives, contributions and passion for the IUPUI community.

Dedication ceremonies are planned for later in the fall semester and more details will be announced in September.

The Campus Center is the IUPUI community center and contributes to the betterment of campus life at IUPUI averaging nearly 8,000 daily visitors and over 6,500 annual events/meetings. The Campus Center is the home for the following departments: Admissions Center ; Barnes & Noble Bookstore; Campus Card Services (JagTag); IUPUI Food Service; Registrar; Student Advocate; Student Financial Services;  Student Involvement; Student Life; Student Media; and Students Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct.  

In addition, the Campus Center has 15 meeting rooms, the Cultural Arts Gallery, a TV lounge with 12 screens, a games room, lounges on all five floors, vending options and lockers.  The newest edition to the Campus Center is the completion of the carillon this summer.
