The Course of Study

To attain this vision, Masarachia Scholars are expected to pursue an approved program of study. They have available a broad selection of Liberal Arts majors related to the goals of the program, as well as courses relevant to community and labor organizations available elsewhere on the IUPUI campus.

IUPUI offers a wealth of courses on subjects of relevance to the Masarachia Scholars Program. Examples include aging. communities and community organizations, economics of the nonprofit sector, labor history, leadership and representation, negotiation and mediation, organizing, organizational communication, public policy, political action, and political organization.

Masarachia Scholars enroll in a special seminar each year. The seminar focuses on the relationship between academic coursework and the needs of people in their capacities as constituents, participants, and leaders in their communities and organizations. In addition, Scholars complete internships with unions, senior organizations, and related community organizations.
