The world is becoming a smaller place in which to live, and the interdependence of our political, cultural, and economic systems is growing by the day. Locally, Indiana’s economic health is increasingly tied to foreign investment and exports of agricultural, life science, or automotive products. The ‘Crossroads of America’ is now a major international freight hub. Record numbers of immigrants from places like Mexico, South Asia, and West Africa are transforming our cultural landscape. Meanwhile, Hoosiers are serving abroad as servicemen or women, Peace Corps volunteers, missionaries, and international business leaders.

What Global and International Studies did for me?

Shehzad Qazi“I graduated from the Global & International Studies program in 2010. The multi-disciplinary nature of my International Studies degree helped me build a career in industries spanning international development, think-tanks, and economic & political risk advisory. In these roles I have worked on public opinion research projects in the Middle East and South Asia for the US and European governments. During my time at Washington, DC think-tanks I wrote policy papers and ran seminars on security issues for government officials.

Today I run China Beige Book International, a data analytics firm that provides institutional investors and multinational corporations the world’s only large-scale private data on the Chinese economy. My work focuses on helping clients track true economic conditions inside the PRC as well as understand the geopolitical risks impacting their portfolios and operations.”
