Fall Semester Submissions

Enhanced Mentoring Program with Opportunities for Ways to Excel in Research (EMPOWER)
Deadline: September 15, 2011
This new funding program has been developed to support IUPUI faculty who are historically underrepresented and/or excluded populations in their discipline or area of scholarship to become succesful in sponsored research and scholarship and to achieve significant growth and advancement in their career through mentorship activities. Mentees will receive a total of $5,000 for each program step sucessfully completed, while mentors receive $1,000. Mentors and mentees can apply separately and be matched, or apply together.

Funding Opportunities for Research Commercialization and Economic Success (FORCES)
Deadline: September 15, 2011 and March 15, 2012
This new program is designed to support IUPUI researchers in the successful transformation of their research findings into commercially viable outcomes. Categoy A funding cannot exceed $25,000 for six-month-long project period. Category B cannot exceed $35,000 for a one-year project. 

OVPIA Overseas Conference Fund Grants
Deadline: October 1, 2011; January 15, 2012; April 1, 2012; July 1, 2012
Open to all IU faculty, for travel expenses for participation in an international conference. The faculty member must be presenting a paper, participating in a poster session, be a panel member, or giving a keynote speech. Conferences held in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Mexico are excluded. The maximum award is $1,000. 

Research Support Funds Grants (RSFG)
Deadline: October 15, 2011 and April 15, 2012

New Frontiers in the Arts and Humanities
Deadline for New Frontiers major grants program: January 16, 2012.
Deadlines for the $2,500 Exploratory Travelling Fellowships are October 15, 2011 and December 15, 2011; February 15, April 15, June 15, and August 15, 2012.

IU Collaborative Research Grants
Deadline: November 15, 2010. 2011 deadline TBA.

International Development Fund (IDF)
Deadline: November 15, 2011

Spring Semester and Summer Submissions

Center for Teaching and Learning Curriculum Enhancement Grant (CEG) 
Expected Deadline: January 14, 2011; 2012 deadline TBA
Open to all IUPUI and IUPUC full-time faculty (tenured, tenure track, non-tenure track).
Provides support, time and resources to improve student learning and success and to increase faculty competitiveness for external educational or curricular improvement grants.

Release Time for Research (RTR)
Deadline: February 1, 2012
Open to tenured or tenure track faculty as well as senior lecturers. RTR supports "buy-out" of teaching time to prepare high quality proposals for submission to external agencies. Senior lecturers may use it to engage in research or creative activity that directly relates to their teaching or service mission. 

Developing Diverse Researchers with InVestigative Expertise (DRIVE)
Deadline: February 15, 2012
The DRIVE program is designed to enhance the diversity and research and creative activity mission of IUPUI.

New Frontiers Exploratorion Travel Fellowships
Deadline: February 15, 2012; April 15, 2012; June 15, 2012; October 15, 2013; and December 15, 2013.

IUPUI Arts and Humanities Initiative Grant (IAHI)
Deadline: March 1, 2012
The IAHI is designed to enhance the research and creative activity mission of IUPUI by supporting research projects and scholarly activities that are conducted by arts and humanities faculty.

SLA Summer Research, Creative Activity, and Scholarship Grants
Deadline: March 9, 2012.

Internal Funding Submission Procedure

  • Remember, it is very important that you discuss the financial implications of your proposal, including course buyouts and sabbatical or other leave, with your department chair and Dean Blomquist well before the submission deadline.
  • Give your Chair or the Dean plenty of time to write a thoughtful letter of support if the grant program asks for a letter. We recommend 2 weeks!
  • You are encouraged to submit proposal narratives for feedback at least five business days before the deadline.
  • Please send Research proposal narratives to Associate Dean Philip Goff (pgoff@iupui.edu). Copy Edith Millikan (emillika@iupui.edu).
  • Please send Curriculum development and Teaching proposals to Associate Dean Marianne Wokeck (mwokeck@iupui.edu). Copy Edith Millikan (emillika@iupui.edu).
  • Edith Millikan will also review your budget and notify you of Dean’s Office approval before you submit your materials to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) or other appropriate office.
