David Savan Collection

David Savan photoDavid Savan (1916-1992) was graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and later earned his Master of Arts from Harvard. He taught at the University of Toronto for forty years. Savan promoted the study of American philosophy and was a Peirce scholar. He was President of the Charles S. Peirce Society, President of the Toronto Semiotic Circle, and President of the International Summer Institute for Semiotic and Structural Studies. In his memory, the University of Toronto dedicated the David Savan Philosophy Library, which opened September 18th, 1996, and the David Savan Dissertation Prize, which was first awarded in 1996.
