The Thelander Award is given annually to the student who submits the best undergraduate history essay to the History department’s awards committee. The deadline for submissions is typically late January or early February. Students who graduated in December may submit papers written during their senior year. Winners receive recognition at one of the School of Liberal Arts functions that spring and a cash prize applied to their Bursar account.
Papers must be written on a historical topic by an undergraduate while regularly enrolled at IUPUI, they must be 12 or more pages in length, and they must conform to standard citation styles such as MLA or Chicago/Turabian. Papers must not contain the student’s name or comments from any previous readers. Attach a separate sheet with the title and the author’s name, address, e-mail address, and phone number. Submit papers to the history office in CA 504M. The awards committee judges submissions on the strength of their analysis, originality, research, and writing.
