Jennifer Scorniaenchi, BA 2008
Jennifer Scorniaenchi is her name and achieving goals is her game. On and off the soccer field Scorniaenchi is a shining example of what a person can achieve once she puts her mind to it.
The Canadian native was recruited by IUPUI Coach Chris Johnson in 2003 while playing a soccer game here in the U.S.
Scorniaenchi did more than play soccer while she was at IUPUI.
"I always knew I wanted to go into sports-specialized psychology" she says.
Thus, majoring in psychology was a given. Realizing that communication studies coursework would help accomplish her professional goals and with a minor already under her belt, she added a major in communication studies.
An extra year later, she came out victorious. With dual majors in hand, Scorniaenchi was accepted to Michigan State University, where in 2010 she received her master's degree in kinesiology, specializing in sport and exercise psychology.
Scorniaenchi's ambition didn't end with graduation. Her competitive spirit still thrives today. Currently, she owns a consulting business in Ontario, Canada, working with people in high performance sports and jobs. "I like helping people manage the crazy chaos of everyday life," says Scorniaenchi. Her business, appropriately named, Performance Connection, aims to help athletes, exercisers, and any person in high-demand positions discover the connection that their mind and body share with regards to performance. Ultimately, Scorniaenchi enables people to discover their true and most optimal performance zone. Since starting her business in October 2010 clients in various levels of sport and professions have come on board.
Scorniaenchi has also published multiple articles in the sports science field on topics such as motivational gains in exercise groups, coping-efficacy in sports, and how to prepare for success in graduate programs for sport psychology. While research and analytic skills have proven to be an asset, Jennifer attributes her ability to effectively communicate with her clients, to listen and actually hear what it is they are saying, and to respond appropriately, to her background in communication studies.
Whether it's helping others through her written or consultative work, it's clear that Scorniaenchi will continue to go for the gold in all that she does. And, we're willing to bet that she'll get it.
