Promotion and Tenure
The committee will review each dossier forwarded in support of a candidacy for promotion along with the recommendation of the primary committee and the Chair. The Committee makes its own recommendation regarding promotion, forwarding to the Dean both a record of the vote and a written review.
The committee will assist the Dean at his or her request in evaluating recommendations received from departmental primary committees for advancement to tenured status, for reappointment, or for non-reappointment, and will serve to examine departmental review procedures. (For details, see Standing Rules, sec. 1.b)
The committee will consist of five tenured faculty members in the School of Liberal Arts, excluding full-time administrators. To the fullest extent possible, the members of the committee will hold the rank of full professor. The Chair will be elected by the committee and will hold the rank of professor. Every effort should be made to ensure diversity of representation on primary and unit promotion and tenure committees.
Nothing in this bylaw may preclude the committee from recommending tenure but not promotion for the same individual.
