Admission Requirements
Admission requirements are the same as the admission requirements to the MA in English.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university,
• Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
• Applicants are expected to have been English majors, but admission also is considered for those who otherwise demonstrate the competency necessary for successful graduate work in English.
• Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test. At least:
• 600 in either verbal or quantitative section
• 4.0 in analytical writing section
The GRE should be taken by December of the year before admission.
Application Requirements
Please apply for the MA and Certificate at the same time. Submit the following:

- Note: If you have already submitted an application for a graduate or certificate program in English at IUPUI, you will need to use a new pin and password. If this is the case, please contact Pat King so she can waive the application fee.
- Application Fee: $60 can be paid with online application

- Official transcript(s) from your undergraduate institution(s)
- GRE Test results
- Three letters of recommendation
- Can be submitted through the online application

Application deadlines:
- Fall—March 1
- Spring—October 1
Visa Requirements for International students
- You must complete application requirements.
- If you are admitted, you will receive an I-20 form.
- You should use the I-20 form to apply for a non-immigrant, student visa (most likely F-1 or J-1).
- Visa application procedures differ by country. Please visit the Department of State page, then click on the country/city where you will be applying for your visa.
