
The Department of English at IUPUI offers two graduate TESOL degrees: a TESOL certificate and an M.A. in English with a TESOL concentration. Learn more about the IUPUI graduate program and access an online application here.
The TESOL Certificate is a 21-credit hour program that can be completed in one calendar year. Students enroll in the following required courses plus an additional four credits of electives:
The M.A. degree is a 36-credit hour program that usually takes two years to complete. Students take all the above TESOL Certificate courses, an additional core course in teaching composition (ENG W509) or literature/literary studies (ENG L506), two to three additional elective courses, and complete an M.A. thesis. Students may pursue an optional emphasis in English for Specific Purposes by taking LING T600 as one of their electives and completing their TESOL Practicum (LING L535) in an ESP setting.
