
Concentration in Linguistics / Minor in Linguistics / Previous Requirements
Please note that the first set of requirements below will apply to all new majors. Students who started under the old system may choose which set of requirements to follow. English majors must take at least 15 hours of 300/400 level courses in the major. A minimum grade of C is required in each course in this concentration.
Choose four from these courses:
In consultation with your advisor, choose four English courses at the 200-level or above, with at least two at the 300- or 400-level. At least three courses must be outside of the Language and Linguistics concentration and at least one course must be in Literature. Please see your advisor to have your program of study approved.

The minor in linguistics is intended for students who wish to expand their knowledge of language structure and use. Courses provide a background in linguistic theory and practice.

In consultation with an advisor, advanced students may request permission to take a graduate course in linguistics in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the minor.
Z205 Introduction to the English Language
One 3-credit course each, at the 200 level or above, in literature, writing (excluding W396 Writing Fellows Training Seminar, E398 Internship in English, and creative writing courses), creative writing, or film studies.
Z206 Introduction to Grammar
Choose four:
One additional course, at the 200 level or above. E398 Internship in English or a course in linguistics, literature, writing, creative writing, or film.
