speech submission guidelines

guidelines for each written speech submission are as follows:

  1. The Submission deadline for all speeches is Wednesday, March 19, 2008.
  2. Speeches are to be submitted online through the CMOT website. The registration page can be reached by clicking here
  3. Each speech should be primarily focused on advocacy for non-violent diplomatic strategies in areas of controversy around the world that have fallen victim to ethnic, religious or political violence and intolerance.
  4. Contestants must be enrolled undergraduate students at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis
  5. Each speech must be by a single and original author
  6. The maximum length of the speech is 1500 words.
  7. Each speech MUST include a bibliography or works cited page and follow a proper documentation style in accordance to APA or MLA style formats.
  8. Each speech MUST have a cover page that includes the title of the speech and the date of submission. Download the cover page here.
  9. In the interest of fairness, the review committee will evaluate each speech “blind” and select the top 24 speeches as quarterfinalists to be performed at the contest. quarterfinalists will be notified by the tournament administrator.
  10. The competition is open to any student, regardless of major
  11. 3x5 notecards will be permitted.
  12. Visual aids (including Powerpoint) will be permitted
  13. Each speech must be 8-10 minutes in length. no time signals will be given.
  14. Each speech must be submitted by the deadline to be considered.
  15. In the event of a dispute, the tournament administrator of the CMOT shall act as final authority and determine the proper outcome.
